Today we are unveiling some challenges of Wedding Photography.  Wedding photography is often seen as a simple profession filled with joy and love.  Which, it definitely is.  But behind the scenes there are a number of challenges that wedding photographers face.  Don’t get me wrong we love what we do. We spend so much time and energy on each wedding because we know how important it is to our couples. We want to capture their love and happiness in a way that they will cherish forever.   But, this blog post is a tribute to our team.  It is a thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into capturing one of the most important days of our clients’ lives. You always rise to the occasion.  And we acknowledge that it may not easy at times but regardless you’re always patient, professional, and creative.

Below is a list of the Challenges of Wedding Photography

1. The Pressure Cooker of Time:

Weddings are fleeting moments of joy that pass by in the blink of an eye. Wedding photographers are masters of time management.  We must seamlessly transitioning between capturing candid moments, organizing group shots, and documenting the intimate details. With a packed schedule and limited time for each segment, there’s no room for error. We navigate through the chaos.  Always ensuring nothing is missed while capturing the essence of the day.

2. The Dance with Ever-Changing Conditions:

Mother Nature has a whimsical sense of humor, and she loves to challenge photographers. Whether it’s harsh midday sun, sudden rain showers, or dimly lit venues, wedding photographers must adapt to constantly changing lighting and weather conditions. We must think on our feet, adjusting camera settings and using creative techniques to ensure every shot is beautifully composed, regardless of the circumstances.

3. The Balancing Act of Art and Expectations:

Wedding photography is a delicate balance between artistic vision and meeting clients’ expectations. Photographers navigate the fine line between capturing their own creative perspective while ensuring we capture the couple’s desired style. We strive to blend authenticity with artistic flair.  And all while ensuring that the final product reflects the couple’s unique love story.

4. The Choreography of People:

Managing people is an art form in itself and wedding photographers are the conductors of this symphony. We must direct and organize large groups for family portraits, coax genuine emotions from camera-shy subjects, and navigate the nuances of different personalities throughout the day. Patience, diplomacy, and an ability to connect with people quickly and confidently are crucial skills in orchestrating those perfect group shots.

5. The Unpredictable and Unscripted:

No two weddings are alike.  Surprises always happen. From spontaneous speeches to impromptu dance-offs, photographers are ever-ready to capture those unexpected and emotionally charged moments. That means skipping a meal or two in order to capture a moment, so be it. We are prepared for anything and everything.  While also keeping our fingers on the shutter button to immortalize the unplanned magic that unfolds before our lens.

6. The Emotional Rollercoaster:

Weddings are an emotional rollercoasters.  They are filled with tears, laughter, and heartfelt moments. As photographers, we are not just observers. But also empathetic storytellers. We navigate the delicate balance of being emotionally present while still maintaining a professional distance. Capturing those genuine emotions without getting swept away requires a delicate touch.  But mostly it requires an understanding of the nuances of human connection.

Wedding photography is a labor of love that demands a unique set of skills and unwavering dedication.  Bust mostly, it requires the ability to thrive in the face of countless challenges. Behind the lens, photographers are weaving a tapestry of memories.  We capture fleeting moments that will be treasured for a lifetime. So, the next time you admire a breathtaking wedding photo I  employ you to take a moment to appreciate the talent and passion that goes into creating that masterpiece.  It is a testament to the enduring artistry of wedding photography.  Thank you to the best team for over coming Challenges of Wedding Photography every weekend!  We love you.

As a bride, your wedding day is one of the most memorable moments of your life. It’s a day filled with love, laughter, and happiness. Capturing those special moments through photography is a must, and one of the most important aspects of that is the getting ready photos. These photos set the tone for the entire day and are often the ones that the bride looks back on most fondly. To ensure you have the best getting ready photos possible, it’s important to choose the right getting ready location. Here are some tips to help our brides find the perfect Bridal Getting Ready Photo Location for their big day.

Natural Light is Key

When it comes to photography, natural light is your best friend. It enhances the photos and brings out the best in your hair and makeup. Natural light is soft and diffused, creating a beautiful and timeless look. When choosing your getting ready location, make sure it has plenty of natural light. A room with large windows or one that’s flooded with natural light is ideal.

Neutral Colors and Backgrounds

The background of your getting ready photos is just as important as the lighting. A neutral background provides a timeless look that won’t distract from the bride. A room with neutral walls, such as white or beige, or one with simple decor, such as a plain couch or armchair, is perfect. Avoid busy patterns or bright colors that can be distracting.

Large Windows

A room with large windows has multiple benefits. It provides more natural light, creating a sense of space and making for beautiful photo opportunities. The natural light also enhances the bride’s features, making her look radiant and glowing. Additionally, large windows provide a beautiful backdrop for the photos, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Enough Space for the Bride and her Bridesmaids

Finally, it’s important to have enough space for the bride and her bridal party to move around and get ready comfortably. Being cramped or rushed can create stress and anxiety, which can show up in the photos. A spacious room with enough seating, mirrors, and outlets for everyone is essential. Make sure there’s enough room for the photographer to move around and capture all the special moments without feeling cramped.

In conclusion, choosing the right location for your getting ready photos is key to capturing the special moments of your wedding day. Natural light, neutral colors and backgrounds, large windows, and enough space for the bride and her entourage are all important factors to consider. With these tips in mind, you’ll have beautiful and timeless getting ready photos that you’ll cherish for years to come.

Tired of scrolling through the internet and pinterest boards for the best engagement session wardrobe inspiration and still have zero idea of what to wear for your engagement shoot?  Wearing all black is always a safe bet.  Don’t get me wrong colour is totally fun but if you are running out of time and ideas all black is always a safe bet.  All black clothing is always a little dressy and sexy, and never goes out of style.  We all have a few classic go to black outfits in our closet somewhere, so no need to go out shopping, but if you do  go shopping another black outfit won’t go to waste.

Check out the photoshoot we did for Sarah and Phillip below.

Enjoy!

While some couples have delayed their weddings until 2021 Alana and Darren had different plans. They were scheduled to have a destination wedding in St.Lucia July 3rd, 2020 but a pandemic didn’t stop them from celebrating their love that day. This backyard micro wedding will melt your heart, because it certainly melted ours and we are so fortunate to have been there to photograph it.

We are all typically ini-dated with hosting the most epic weddings ever.  I  know I  certainly was during the planning process of my own wedding.  But, I  must say that this backyard small wedding really stripped everything down to the basics- AND it was EPIC.  The only people that could attend were the closest people to Alana and Darren and hearing their heart felt stories and laughter reminded me what this wedding business is really all about.

Alana and Darren are both nurses.  We all understand (especially during a time like this) how special nurses are.  Nurses are drawn to nursing because of their desire to to care, to serve and to help others.  Alana and Darren are full of love and support for each other and their close families and friends.  The outpouring of emotions from everyone on this day was incredibly uplifting and wonderful to be surrounded by and apart of.

Alana and Darren’s backyard wedding reminds us all what this is all about -This is the day where you get to tell everyone (all of your closest friends and family members) how much you love one another and can’t wait to spend the rest of your lives together. This is one of the best days of your life, and is worth treasuring.

Even if you don’t have a huge wedding, and you aren’t able to book your top wedding venue, or have all that fancy decor you’ve dreamt about, or 100’s of guests there,  none of that matters. What matters is being a part of the love and joy of this day.

With Toronto’s very first snowfall of the year the day before, Sophia and Steven could not have been luckier to have such a beautiful day to take their fall engagement photos. The Scarborough Bluffs in Toronto was the perfect place for this engagement session. A walk by the cliff area overlooking the beach and the docks, followed by a serene sunset by the beach; this engagement session was dreamy! We had such a great time getting to know both Sophia and Steven, and wish them all the best in their life together. Check out their lovely fall engagement photos below! 🙂

Cara and Elliot were on the fence about a lifestyle session and we were so happy when they decided to go for a late evening summer session just a few months before their wedding at the Fairmont Royal York in the fall. They wanted simple, beautiful pictures, with a nice background for them to look back on. We thought a Cherry Beach engagement session in Toronto would be the perfect place for them to hang out thanks to it’s beautiful green, forested areas and beachy spots. Check out their Cherry Beach engagement session below and proof that this summer did have some gorgeous weather!

Caroline and Robert love hiking, mother nature, and rock climbing, so when they decided on a homemade, fun, beautiful gathering of friends and family in the woods, a woodland wedding at the Kortright Centre was a natural fit. Caroline wore a beautiful gown from Ivy & Aster and Robert was sharply dressed in Garrison Bespoke. They added so many personal touches to the day like custom woodworking, handmade soap, flowers from Coriander Girl, and sourced local items where possible. They even planted and grew all the cacti that were given as wedding favours to the guests! Congratulations Caroline and Robert!

Just two and a half hours north of Toronto, Brittany and Robert spend most of their weekends up at their family cottage in Muskoka. Having a Muskoka engagement session felt like a mini getaway! As soon as I saw the inside, I knew we could do a fun editorial style shoot where they could really hang out and be themselves, exactly what they normally do on most weekends. When we went outside to do some shots on the amazing property, we even got teased by a crazy storm in the background! Thanks so much for letting me into your favourite space, Brittany and Rob.

Hope you enjoy!

It’s been just over a year, and while so much has happened since then, we still love looking back at Talia and Daniel’s wedding at the Guvernment from last year. What a unique wedding venue, with over six hundred people, just over fifty in the bridal party alone (no joke)! If you have ever been to the Guvernment, you will look at these photos and have to think twice about whether or not we are lying that a wedding actually took place there.

Frank Rea, from Forget me Not Flowers, transformed the space into elegance! Flowers, flowers, and more flowers. Frank outdid himself on this one. Starting with the largest single rose bouquet we have ever seen, Talia was immediately floored by Frank’s signature bridal bouquet presentation (glass case and all).

We had Zuchter Berk cater the event and the guests danced the night away to Nu-Rythym with a surprise performance by Matt Dusk. Talia’s father, Danny, surprised the couple with a special performance by Matt, and he performed a set that was such a treat for everyone in the room.
But – nothing could compare to the evening’s main star, Talia. Not only did she shine, her dress was something else too. It was designed by Israeli designer Inbal Dror from White Toronto, and from the moment Talia laid eyes on this gown, she was in love.  To complement Talia’s elegant gown, Daniel was dressed head to toe in Hugo Boss by the fine folks over at Harry Rosen.

These two not only looked stunning, but they truly ARE wonderful people too. They really are the Mr. and Mrs. we all want to see get married, and just 11 months later they welcomed little Jacob Modechai, or “Peanut” as Talia calls him, into the world.

We love these two so much, and we know that as you scroll through the photos below, you’ll fall in love with Talia and Daniel, and the unique wedding venue, too :

With a beautiful ceremony surrounded by orchards and vineyards, Kurtz Orchards at Niagara-on-the-Lake quickly became one of our favourite places to shoot. This wedding was filled with tons of creative DIY details, from guest polaroid pictures and wood plate settings, to bridesmaids dresses that were made by the bride’s sister-in-law. We had a lot of fun capturing a day full of laughter and fun times! Here’s a look at some of my favourite shots of the event, hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed taking them!
