The Art of Storytelling Through Candid Shots

Candid Wedding Photography is all about storytelling. It’s about freezing those fleeting moments in time that reveal the true emotions and connections between people. Our photographers have an impeccable eye for detail and a knack for anticipating those spontaneous moments, ensuring that nothing escapes their lenses.

Unobtrusive Yet Ever-Present

One of the key aspects of candid wedding photography is its unobtrusiveness. We understand the importance of blending seamlessly into the background, allowing you and your guests to enjoy every moment without feeling self-conscious. We have a knack for capturing the most intimate moments while remaining virtually invisible. We’ll be there, silently documenting the laughter, the tears, and everything in between, so you can relive those precious memories for years to come.

Storytelling through Frames

Candid wedding photography is akin to weaving a magical tale, where every frame becomes a chapter in your unique love story. From the anticipation of getting ready to the joyous dances on the dance floor, each image adds depth and meaning to your narrative.

Seizing the Fleeting Moments

Weddings are a whirlwind of activity, with emotions flying high and beautiful moments passing in the blink of an eye. Candid approach is about seizing those ephemeral instances, freezing them in time forever.

Embracing Imperfections

Life isn’t perfect, and neither are weddings. But it’s the imperfections that add character and authenticity to your big day. Candid photography embraces these imperfections, making them part of the charm and telling your story with honesty.

Laughter: The Glue That Holds It All

Weddings are full of laughter, both light-hearted and heartfelt. Candid photography approach captures those infectious giggles, ensuring they become an everlasting reminder of the joyous atmosphere on your special day.

Candid wedding photography is a unique style that captures the essence of the day, from the genuine emotions of the bride and groom to the fleeting moments of joy and laughter.

Unlike traditional wedding photography, which often relies on posed shots, Candid wedding photography is all about capturing the candid moments. That means capturing the bride’s tears of joy as she sees her groom for the first time, or the groom’s laughter as he dances with his best friends.

This style of photography is perfect for couples who want to preserve the real story of their day, not just the posed and staged moments. It’s a way to capture the true magic of your wedding day, from the first look to the last dance.

Welcome to this collaborative blog article brought to you by MANGO Studios, Mad Bash, Table Tales, Its Okay Studio, and The Flower 597. In this post, we’ll explore five distinct wedding tablescapes inspiration that are sure to set the tone for your wedding day. Furthermore, whether you envision something romantic or minimalist, we’ve got you covered with ideas and tips to create a captivating tablescape.

Ethereal Romance

For those who adore soft colors, flowing fabrics, and delicate details that evoke whimsy, this tablescape style is perfect. Classic beauties like roses, dahlias, tulips, and baby’s breath create an enchanting floral arrangement. To enhance the ambiance, incorporate fairy lights and candles, setting a soft and romantic tone. Additionally, consider adding vintage or bohemian pieces as a nod to the past. Ultimately, this style transports guests to a truly romantic wedding experience.

Boho Babe

Embrace an eclectic and free-spirited tablescape with a mix of patterns, textures, and colors in a boho babe theme. By using natural materials like wood and rattan and warm earthy colors, you can create a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, adding mismatched plates, vibrant glassware, and natural elements like flowers or branches enhances the relaxed vibe. After all, the boho babe tablescape is all about embracing a laid-back and inviting setting.

Modern Minimalist

If you like clean and simple designs, the modern minimalist tablescape is perfect for you. Basically, it features simple colors like black, white, or neutrals, giving off an elegant vibe. Additionally, geometric shapes, subtle centerpieces, and clean-lined tableware take center stage. As a result, this style creates a cool, calm, and serene atmosphere, bringing a sense of sophisticated tranquility.

Whimsical Wonder

Introducing the whimsical wonder tablescape, a playful and imaginative setting characterized by bold and unexpected combinations of colors, patterns, and textures. After all, this style celebrates the quirky and unconventional, incorporating unique and often handmade decor items like DIY art or vintage pieces. Ultimately, the whimsical style is a celebration of creativity and individuality, resulting in a tablescape that is joyful and full of personality.

Retro Romance

If you long for a nostalgic celebration, the retro romance tablescape will transport you to vibrant eras like the 50s, 60s, or 70s. Moreover, drawing inspiration from those times, this style incorporates charming elements such as retro kitchen items, checkered tablecloths, vintage glassware, and thrifted vases. Furthermore, you can add a touch of uniqueness with vintage posters and thrifted finds for decor. After all, the retro romance style seamlessly combines nostalgia and style, resulting in a tablescape that is timeless and captivating.

Oh, the age-old question – to do, or not to do a First Look on your wedding day? How do you feel about locking eyes before the ceremony? Every couple is unique; we understand that you might have different needs, traditions, timelines, or visions for your big day. In light of this, we believe it’s worth considering something special: a first look.

A first look gives you the chance to have a private, emotional moment before the whirlwind of the day begins. It’s like having your own secret world where you can soak in all the love and excitement without any distraction. Worried about losing the magic? Absolutely not!

Here’s the thing – it doesn’t erase the magic; it multiplies it! It hands you a bigger platter of unique moments to savour throughout the day, more waves of emotion to ride, and more core memories to cherish forever. So, we give First looks a big thumbs up!

Here are our top 4 reasons for having a First Look:

Capturing Emotions

The first look is often filled with raw, genuine emotions which can make for some of the most beautiful and heartfelt wedding photos. When you see each other for the first time in private, without all the guests watching, you can react honestly and openly. This often results in powerful, candid photos that capture the true essence of your relationship!

Easing Nerves

Seeing each other before the ceremony can help reduce any anxiety you might be feeling about the big day. This moment allows the couple to connect, comfort each other, and alleviate any pre-wedding jitters. It can be a calming and grounding experience before the whirlwind of the ceremony and reception begins.

Saving Time

Having a first look can streamline the timeline of your wedding day. Traditional weddings often have a significant gap between the ceremony and reception to allow for formal pictures. With a first look, many of these photos can be taken beforehand, allowing you to move straight from the ceremony to the reception and spend more time with your guests. Say goodbye to extended photo sessions and hello to celebrating with your dear ones!

Creating a core memory

In the midst of a busy and often chaotic day, the first look can provide a moment of privacy and intimacy. Amidst the whirl of getting ready, guests arriving, and last-minute touch-ups, it’s a peaceful pause. Just you two, soaking up the reality that you’re about to become a married couple. It’s one of those rare moments when you get to be alone with your partner, creating a core memory that’s exclusively yours. This moment is about you two, not about others’ expectations, adding that extra dash of personal significance to your special day.

So there you have it! Four compelling reasons to consider a First look on your special day. As wedding photographers, we promise it adds a beautiful layer of emotion, calm, efficiency, and intimacy to your wedding day.

Here are some wedding galleries we’ve captured with First Looks to inspire your day:

Summer’s here, and we’re gearing up for a busy wedding season ahead! Whether it’s a beautiful beach wedding or a stunning destination location, we’re ready to capture all the magic. Check out our must-read guide for destination wedding photography below, filled with tips and inspiration to help you prepare for your big day from your fellow destination wedding photographer!

1. Booking Early

Are you planning a destination wedding? Remember to book your photographer early to secure availability on your big day!

We recommend booking your destination wedding photographer at least a year in advance to have plenty of time to discuss details and must-have shots. Our team takes destination weddings seriously and will capture all the special moments to make your dream destination wedding come true.

Contact us today to check availability and start planning your perfect destination wedding!

2. Seasons & Time of Year

Ensure a perfect wedding day by selecting a venue with mild weather conditions throughout the year. Check the forecast to avoid extreme temperatures or rain that could spoil the day. The months between May and September are perfect for travel and offer the best opportunity for beautiful and unforgettable wedding photos.

3. Vendors

When booking a destination wedding, it’s important to find reliable vendors. Not only will they help turn your destination wedding photos into that Pinterest board you admire, but will also make sure your destination wedding experience is as smooth as possible. Check with local vendors to see if they are available to travel internationally.

4. Tips for Sticking to Your Destination Wedding Budget

Planning ahead and sticking to a budget is crucial when it comes to a destination wedding. Here are some tips:

  • Plan Ahead: make a comprehensive list of expenses and prioritize what is most important to you. This will help you allocate your funds accordingly.
  • Share Expenses with Guests (optional): consider your budget and your guests’ financial situations before deciding whether to split the cost of accommodations and travel tickets.
  • Consider a Smaller Wedding Having: a smaller wedding can allow you to pay more attention to details and décor, resulting in magical wedding photos. Plus, it can mean less money spent on food and drinks.

Remember, prioritize what’s important to you and your partner. With careful planning and budgeting, you can have the destination wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank.

5. Picking the Right Outfit

When it comes to destination wedding photography, picking the right outfit is key. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Inform Your Guests: Let your guests know about the weather and accommodations at your destination so that they can dress accordingly. This will also help you in deciding on your wedding dress.
  • Consider the Environment: When picking your wedding dress, keep in mind the environment of your destination. A light and simple dress will look great against a beach backdrop, while a ball gown may not be as practical.

Remember, the most important thing is to choose an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and confident. With the right outfit and setting, your destination wedding photos will be absolutely breathtaking.

We hope you found this guide helpful in planning your dream wedding! To get a better sense of our style and expertise, here are some of our favorite photos from our most recent destination weddings. Let’s Find Your Dream Toronto Wedding Venue by Mango Studios Wedding Photography Team!

Congratulations, you’re engaged! Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of finding the best wedding venue in Toronto. Don’t worry; we won’t judge if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed. It’s not every day you have to pick a spot to celebrate your love that will make even your in-laws happy.  Think of it like choosing a Netflix movie, but with higher stakes. You need something that will appeal to both you and your partner, but also something that won’t make you want to pull your hair out.

We get asked all the time at the studio if we’ve photographed weddings at a specific Toronto wedding venues before, and almost always, our answer is “Yes!”. With nearly two decades of experience in the wedding industry, we’ve had the privilege of shooting all over Canada, the United States, and even internationally. Wedding venues come in all shapes and sizes, with varying lighting conditions. As photographers, we often categorize venues as either “light” or “dark” locations. When helping clients choose a venue, we highly recommend looking at a venue’s lighting in addition to its capacity and aesthetic.

Whether you’re interested in a classic hotel ballroom, a trendy restaurant, or a country club, each type of wedding venue comes with its own pros and cons. To help you make an informed decision, we’ve put together a list of our top five most popular wedding venue types and what you need to know before booking.

1. Restaurant Wedding Venue

Here are some pros and cons to help you decide if a restaurant is the right wedding venue for you!

Pros:
  • Cozy and intimate: Restaurants have a warm and inviting ambiance, perfect for a smaller wedding celebration.
  • Unique culinary experience: Talented chefs create customized menus, providing a unique and memorable culinary experience for you and your guests. A foodies dream!
  • Cost-effective: Restaurants often include catering and table settings, making it more cost-effective than renting a larger event space, and they have high quality service.
  • Flexible: Many restaurants are open to accommodating different wedding styles and themes, and some even allow you to rent out the entire space.
Cons:
  • Limited space: Restaurants have limited capacity and may not be able to accommodate larger guest lists.
  • Decor restrictions: There may be limitations on decorating options, which can be challenging if you have a specific vision for your wedding décor.
  • Limited timing: Restaurants often have set opening and closing times, which means that your wedding may need to end earlier than if you were renting an event space.

2. Country Club Wedding Venue

Here are some pros and cons to help you decide if a Country Club wedding venue is the perfect match for you!

Pros:
  • Nature: The natural surroundings make for a stunning backdrop, no matter the season.
  • Blank canvas: There are no restrictions on decor, so you can get as creative as you want!
  • Unique location: Country clubs often have beautiful scenery, like lakes and woods, making for unique photo opportunities with your photographer.
Cons:
  • Temperature control: Outdoor and tented receptions can get chilly at night, so be sure to plan accordingly.
  • Transportation: Country clubs are often located outside the city, so transportation can be a challenge.
  • Restrictions: There may be limitations on the setup or use of amenities, like golf clubs not allowing guests to go outside designated areas.

3. Private Toronto Estates Wedding Venue

Do you love the classic sophisticated look of a private estate for your wedding venue? Let’s see the pros and cons of having your wedding venue here.

Pros:
  • Both indoor and outdoor locations: What we love about private estate weddings like Graydon Hall,  is that they have a great variety of photo locations indoors and outdoors.
  • Nostalgia vibe: Historic venues are cozy for family-centered celebrations and ethereal bridal portraits.
  • No restrictions on decor: These venues are pretty flexible when it comes to decor and have no decor restrictions: Perfect for those looking to create a sophisticated ambiance.
Cons:
  • Rentals required: Furniture and DJ rentals add to costs.
  • External catering: May need to bring in catering company, increasing expenses.

4. Toronto Banquet Hall Wedding Venue

Are you looking for a Banquet Hall venue to fit your large guest list but aren’t sure if it’s the right fit? Here are some pros and cons to help!

Pros:
  • Capacity: Banquet halls are made for grand, glamorous celebrations so go all out! They usually fit the most guests and are perfect for dancing the night away.
  • Variety: There are so many banquet halls to choose from in the city and you can find any aesthetic to your liking.
  • Experienced staff: As banquet halls specialize in weddings, their in-house staff is knowledgeable and can help with wedding planning.
  • Built-in accommodations: Banquet halls usually provide tables, chairs, and may even have a DJ and lighting equipment already.
  • Location: Banquet halls are usually located in the city, making it easy to find great locations for photos and parking for you and your guests!
Cons:
  • Hidden costs: Watch out for extra fees like overtime, valet parking, and cake cutting services.
  • Limited flexibility: Popular wedding venues might have other weddings happening at the same time, limiting photo locations.
  • Tricky lighting conditions: Grand ceilings and spotlights can make lighting difficult, so make sure your photographer is experienced with these lighting conditions.

5. Barn Wedding Venue

Do you love the outdoors and want a country side feel to your wedding photos? Let’s see if our list below can help you decide on booking a barn for your wedding venue!

Pros:
  • Capacity: Barn weddings can host unlimited guests inside and outside, perfect for large groups. The sky’s the limit!
  • Charm & textures: As artists, we love that barn locations offer diverse textures and lighting scenarios for stunning wedding photos inspired by the countryside.
  • Intimate wedding feel: Barn weddings provide an intimate and laid-back setting with a small wedding feel and vibe.
  • Blank canvas: Barns are a blank canvas for decor and styling, from dramatic chandeliers to intimate candles. You have free rein over decor and styling!
  • Natural light: Barn weddings offer ample natural light for ceremonies and creative portraits in nearby nature. Taking some creative couple portraits during golden hour here also makes for beautiful photos with your partner!
Cons:
  • Unpredictable weather: If you’re committed to an outdoor ceremony or reception, make sure you’re prepared for the craziest of weather scenarios.
  • Indoor lighting: Barns can be dark, so ensure adequate reception lighting. Wooden walls and ceilings can pose flash challenges, hiring an experienced photographer is important.
  • Transportation: Barns and farms are usually located at least an hour or two away from the city. Make sure you consider transportation time for your guests and make necessary accommodations.

Ultimately, choose a venue that fits your style, vision, and budget. We’re here to help you capture all the special moments of your big day, regardless of the venue you choose!

The fact is most us feel awkward about having our pictures taken. Where do I put my hands, where do I look, how should I stand? I don’t know what to do! These are things that I often hear from my couples during their portrait session (Funny, but I, too, feel pretty strange when someone takes a picture of me!) And you know what, that’s alright. We’re not used to being in front of a camera for hours at a time. Sure, an occasional good-looking selfie here and there is fun, but what about your wedding pictures where you absolutely have to look great regardless of weather conditions and strict timelines?

As in any situation, I have tried-and-true tricks in my tool kit to get you looking your best, especially on your wedding day. One of the basic tricks to looking great in any pictures is giving your body a shape. This can be achieved by slightly lifting one of your shoulders, by putting one of your legs forward, or allowing all of your weight to fall on only one leg with a slight bend in the other. The former is especially true when taking pictures with your back turned to a photographer. It gives a flattering “S” curve to your whole shape and adds instant elegance to the look. Bringing one leg forward is great when taking front full-length portraits. The same is true for grooms. Bring your weight to one foot and slightly bend your other leg in knees. Put your hands in pockets and DANG! You look like a pro.

Every couple’s dynamic is different and I love when the pictures show this off and it comes out naturally. That is why you will see me gently modifying your natural stance as opposed to full on directing. The greatest thing for me is to see your personality shine through. Allow yourself to live in the moment, after all it is your wedding day. Bask in the happiness and excitement of your day and try to forget about the camera. I strive to capture beautiful wedding imagery full of intimacy and raw emotions. Therefore, I opt to guide my couples while staying true to their unique nuances. There are endless ways to capture excitement, energy and joy that comes with the wedding day, and my role is to capture them ever so truthfully. Even when you pose.

Destination wedding photography

With the summer finally in town, I’m preparing for the busy season ahead with a must-read destination wedding photographer guide to shooting weddings. As much as I love shooting in Canada and the USA, this year is also filled with tons of beautiful destination weddings. I couldn’t be happier – escaping to a sandy beach makes for a beautiful wedding, as well as gorgeous wedding photos! As I’m packing for my next destination wedding (and anxiously trying to fit all my clothes in a carry-on suitcase), I decided to share my personal destination wedding photography guide to help you prepare and get inspired:

1. Booking Early

Booking your photographer early is crucial! When it comes to destination wedding photography, you want to make sure your photographer is available for your travel dates and is able to travel to your destination! Usually, I book my destination weddings a year in advance – it gives me and my clients plenty of time to discuss all the wedding details and must have wedding shots. You can simply shoot an email here to see my availability.

2. Seasons & Time of Year

When booking a wedding venue, make sure to double-check what the weather is like throughout the year. Most people wouldn’t want to get married in the rain or when it’s scorching hot! Usually the best times of year to travel are May through September. Making sure your weather is mild will not only make your wedding enjoyable, but it will also allow for absolutely beautiful wedding photos.

3. Vendors

When booking a destination wedding, it’s important to find reliable vendors. Not only will they help turn your destination wedding photos into that Pinterest board you admire, but will also make sure your destination wedding experience is as smooth as possible. Check with local vendors to see if they are available to travel internationally! The Friends List here will help you see some of the vendors I have worked with.

4. Budget

Every couple has a different wedding budget they get to work with. Planning ahead can be a great help for this. While some couples split the cost of accommodations and travel tickets with their guests, there is no hard rule to follow. Remember, if you’re having a smaller wedding, you can pay more attention to details and décor, which means tons of magical wedding photos!

5. Picking Your Outfit Accordingly

It’s important to remember to let your guests know what the weather and accommodations will be like at your destination. This will allow them (and me!) to properly prepare for your wedding and wear the proper attire. Most importantly, it will help guide you when deciding on your wedding dress. While ball gowns look amazing in photographs, something light and simple will also look great in wedding photos against the dreamy beach backdrop.

I hope you found this destination wedding photography guide helpful! Below are some of my favourite photos from Teresa and Louis’ destination wedding at SALA Phuket Resort in Thailand. I hope you enjoy!

From the Bride… Our first date was on the beach. Louis proposed to me at the beach too, so we decided on a beachside wedding. We wanted the photos to capture more about the beach settings. We wanted a white and pure wedding with a hint of playfulness. We wanted a day that was elegant and graceful, but at the same time more fun, warm and genuine.
