In this blog post, we will explore the Top 5 Wedding Reception Photo Ideas that will create stunning images that will leave you in awe when receiving your reception photos! As the sun sets and the stars twinkle, the night offers a unique and enchanting backdrop for wedding photography and we are excited to share some of our favourite ideas with you.

1.Sparklers

Embracing Sparkler Magic: A Trail of Romance and Whimsy

Sparklers are not just for Fourth of July celebrations; they can also add a touch of whimsy and romance to wedding photography. Meanwhile, invite your bridal party to create a sparkler tunnel for you and your partner to run or dance through. Your photographer can use a slow shutter speed to capture the trails of light as your bridal party dance around you. The sparklers will infuse the images with a sense of magic and create memorable photographs to end your wedding day! Definitely one of our favourite Wedding Reception Photo Ideas!

2. Fireworks

Igniting the Sky: Capturing the Grandeur of Fireworks

Fireworks have a way of transforming an ordinary night into a spectacle of light and color. If the wedding venue permits, our photographers coordinate with the the fireworks team to capture this breathtaking display. We love to capture both the fireworks and the couple’s reactions! These images will showcase the grandeur and excitement of the end of the night!

     3. Cellphone Flash

Shining Light on Creativity: The Power of Cellphone Flash in Low-Light

In the age of smartphones, the built-in flash can be a useful tool for capturing low-light moments at weddings. Our photographers experiment with using the cellphone flash to create dramatic lighting effects or to illuminate specific details. Furthermore, these images will showcase your love in a unique and contemporary way.

4. Direct Flash and Multiple Exposure

Embracing Artistic Expression with Direct Flash and Multiple Exposure Magic!

Multiple exposure photography isn’t limited to just the daytime. Additionally, we embrace the dramatic effects of direct flash in your night time images on the dance floor or when we are able to sneak away with our couples for a sunset session on their wedding day. However, adding multiple exposure into the mix creates some visually stunning images! We experiment with different angles, shadows, and compositions to create visually striking photographs with a paparazzi type feel! We love how artistic and storytelling these photographs can be and the emotions they evoke.

5. String Lights

Capturing the Fairy-Lit Romance: String Lights as a Dreamy Backdrop

String lights are a staple at weddings, and they offer endless possibilities for creative night time photography. We incorporate them into wedding photo by framing our couples within the soft glow of the lights or using them as a backdrop for portraits. Experimenting with bokeh effects, and capturing the delicate and dreamy out-of-focus lights. These images will evoke a sense of romance and create a warm and magical ambiance.

Embrace the Night: Experimenting with Techniques for Unforgettable Reception Photos

Overall, night time photography on your wedding day opens up a world of creative opportunities. Sparklers, fireworks, cellphone flash, direct flash, multiple exposures, and string lights provide unique and captivating ways to capture the essence of love in the night. During your wedding night embrace these ideas, and allow your photographer to experiment with different techniques, and your reception photos will be truly unforgettable! We hope our Top 5 Wedding Reception Photo Ideas helped inspire your wedding day!

Love in Paradise: Alana and Darren’s Dream Destination Wedding in St. Lucia

In 2020, two nurses, Alana and Darren, had a Covid wedding in their backyard. However, they always dreamt of having their Dream Destination wedding in St. Lucia, and two years later, their dream finally came true! With only 25 of their loved ones present with some family coming from Trinidad, they even made sure that our team felt welcomed and like part of the family during their magical week-long celebration at the Royalton Resort in Saint Lucia.

The Wedding Day

On the initial evening of their island getaway, the couple hosted a warm welcome gathering for their esteemed guests. The following day, everyone indulged in leisurely moments by the pool, unwinding and making arrangements for the momentous occasion of Alana and Darren’s wedding day. Meanwhile, our team explored around the resort to find the best locations for creative photos for the wedding day.

On their special day, surrounded by loved ones, the couple got ready at the resort before heading out to the ceremony location on the island. Darren’s tears of joy moved everyone as they read their personal letters. And then, a rainbow appeared during the ceremony at the Ancient Ruins on Pigeon Island. So magical! The setting was breathtaking with golden chairs, tropical plants, and a glass walkway. Amidst nature and ancient ruins, they exchanged vows surrounded by their closest loved ones. We captured these once-in-a-lifetime moments for the sweet couple. It was truly the perfect day!

The Reception

Our team captured every moment of their big day, including a quick creative on Pigeon Island after the ceremony, surrounded by colourful architecture, and a walk on the beach during blue hour to capture some intimate moments. Creative sessions were a must during this Dream Destination wedding in St.Lucia! Alana’s grandparents shared their first dance during the reception after 67 years of marriage after not getting the chance to have their special moment on their big day years ago. It was such a sweet heartfelt moment to witness! Their lively reception was followed by an after-party where they danced the night away. Even our photographers joined in!

The Island Tour

The day after the wedding, the couple and their guests went on an island boat tour to enjoy the landscapes and beaches of St. Lucia. They went snorkelling, saw dolphins, went on a hike, and even took mud baths. Our team came along for every part of the adventure to capture all their fun moments on the island. We even captured drone shots of the island from above!

Alana and Darren’s Dream Destination wedding in St. Lucia was a true example of true love that can conquer all, and inspire those around them. It was a magical week of celebration, surrounded by their loved ones, breathtaking views, and touching moments. Our team was honoured to capture every tear, smile, and laugh, and we wish Alana and Darren a lifetime of happiness together!

Guests enjoy dinner and entertainment at a garden party in Southern France

What do you think of when you hear “A garden party in the south of France”? Is it lush, green gardens on a gorgeous property in the hilltops of France? Because that’s exactly what Aymara and Giovanni’s party was. The day before their wedding, Aymara and Giovanni held a private market-style garden party for their family and friends at the Chateau Saint-Martin, a hotel and spa in the town of Vence on the French Riviera. Talk about the perfect way to relax and spend time with their closest loved ones who flew from all around the world to celebrate with them.

Besides the picturesque rolling hills in the background, there was live music, great local food and drinks. As day turned to dusk, the garden party was lit by a canopy of string lights above, creating a glow as guests shared warm words and raised a glass to Aymara and Giovanni. The party continued into the night as Aymara and Giovanni and their guests danced the night away.

As a destination wedding photographer,  I find this experience can be a little different as I really become part of the experience. Most of the time I am traveling with the couple or their guests and getting to know them on a more personal level over several days. (i.e. eating with them, staying at the same hotel or going for an early morning swim with Aunt Sue 🙂 etc). I get a really close and multifaceted experience with the couple and their loved ones. This immersion into the families life makes capturing the candid moments between family and friends one of my favourite parts of the wedding day. Destination weddings really seem to bring everyone together and produce an outpouring of genuine emotions. This is my favourite part of the day.

There have been so many great memories at my destination weddings that it’s hard to pick a favourite. The common element would have to be that they all evoke powerful emotions. For example, I remember one creative session during the magic hour – just at the height of sunset – when the light was slowly dipping below the trees as the bride and groom walked into the sunset holding hands. It was a candid and quiet moment shared by the couple just when the quality and beauty of the light was at its most intense, and I think that the image really captured their love and joy.

On the wedding day I like to take a simple approach by capturing photographs that are true to the moments and people. I want your images to help you remember the day and feeling. My pre-wedding “ritual” is more of an “organizational system”. I remove everything from my bag and meticulously re-pack all the gear I need. It must all fit into one bag no matter what as I like to be portable and want everything available as I travel between locations during the wedding day.

Photographing weddings on destinations in part keeps me inspired because of the new environments. I feel grateful to be able to explore these beautiful locations, learn new or unique details about the place, and develop a feel for the unique possibilities that different light conditions offer. At Mango we always travel to a destination wedding early to explore the area, get a feel for it and to find inspiration for our wedding photographs. I like to create a story by representing the moments that unfold throughout the day. The clean and elegant feel comes from keeping my eye out for the in-between moments that are already happening and framing them in a simple but evocative way.

Overall, I think planning a wedding remotely can be very difficult and stressful with language and time differences. So, start the planning process early and hire a wedding planner that is experienced with the area where you want to get married. Having a photographer who is experienced in destination weddings also helps, and at Mango we are very good at it! 🙂

Your wedding day is one of the happiest days of your life. It can also be one of the quickest. Everything happens so fast that sometimes the happy couple is left thinking, “Wow, is it already over?!”  Whether you’re having your wedding in Toronto, Miami, or some exotic destination, we came up with a wedding photography checklist of 10 photos you do not want to miss!

The 10 must have top wedding photos you do not want to miss are:

BRIDE PORTRAIT

Many say a woman is her most radiant on her wedding day. You’ll want to have this beauty captured in a stunning portrait so make sure your photographer captures a portrait of just you alone. This can happen anytime while she’s getting ready, at the church, during the creative and even at the reception.

MS-wedding-photos-you-do-not-want-to-miss-0013MS-wedding-photos-you-do-not-want-to-miss-0014

CLASSIC FULL-BODY PORTRAIT

A full-body portrait is a Wedding Photography Checklist MUST HAVE! For years to come you’ll look at this portrait and see how happy the two of you looked in your stunning wedding attire and be able to think back to that day. Don’t forget to let your personality and love for one another shine through. Just because it’s a portrait, doesn’t mean it needs to be boring!

UP AT THE ALTER

The moments you spend standing together at the alter are among the most important of the day. Those candid moments of tears, loving glances, and goofy smiles are the ones you’ll appreciate most.

MS-wedding-photos-you-do-not-want-to-miss-0019 MS-wedding-photos-you-do-not-want-to-miss-0020

THE FIRST LOOK REACTION

The reaction of seeing each other for the first time is such an emotional moment. The smiles, tears, and pure joy on your faces are moments that need to be documented. Whether you choose to do a separate “first look” before your ceremony, or save it for when you’re walking down the aisle, these are great must have moments to have captured.

GUEST’S EMOTIONS

Your guests are so happy to be able to share this day with you and it’s equally important to capture their emotions. You’ll be too focused on your vows and “I do’s” to see just how elated your Grandma Elis or Great Uncle Tony are. It’ll be so sweet down the road to look back on.

IN-BETWEEN MOMENTS

In-between moments might be having fun with your bridal party, family hugs, or little ones dancing, or maybe someone sneaking a taste off the dessert table. These are the sweet memories you may not see but they’ll be something special to see later.

YOUR VENUE

The location always tells a story. So much thought goes into selecting the perfect venue and the special details you fill it with.

A CANDID FROM THE HEAD TABLE

When we look at the head table, we’re looking at a brilliantly happy couple. We see smiles, whispered remarks, kisses, and stolen moments.

PARTY THE NIGHT AWAY

Once the champagne has been popped and the dinner dishes have been cleared away the real party begins. We want to see you really cut loose during these remaining hours of your wedding. You’ll be having fun or dancing with your friends and these photos are going to create playful memories that last a lifetime.

This Madsen’s Greenhouse wedding just outside of Toronto in Newmarket was perfectly warm and intimate, we’re so happy to share some of the details with you and even more excited our photography graced the pages of Weddingbells Magazine 2015 issue.

Below is what Natalie the bride had to say about the Best Day of her life:)

Creating an intimate and warm atmosphere for everyone was challenging with a large guest list.  We accomplished that feeling by selecting a church with lots of wood and bringing some elements of the outdoor inside, such as the moss aisle-runner. Our reception space was in a cozy greenhouse with lots of twinkly lights for our guests to dance around.  We love our florist, Flowers 597.  They were incredibly gracious to work with and gave us exactly what we envisioned.  They really brought my blush mint, gold and glitter dream theme to life, especially with my bouquet and terrarium like centre pieces.  Some elements of the wedding were particularly meaningful because they were created by us, friends and family.  Jacky’s sister made custom cake toppers and the illustrations for our letterpress invitation suites.  Our friend Cheryl hand-wrote all the stationary.  Marrying my high-school sweetheart was everything I could have wanted and more.  I wish I could relive our wedding day over and over, but I’m looking forward to growing old with him even more.

Super excited to see the Wedluxe Magazine Summer Fall 2015 issue is out on stands now! It features a gorgeous, dreamy art gallery wedding at the Art Gallery of Ontario with NHL’s Chicago Blackhawk’s player Kris Versteeg and his wife, Brittany. The Mango team had so much fun with the couple, their family, and friends on the day and enjoyed (secretly) routing for the Blackhawks during the Stanley Cup finals. The wedding was designed and planned by Melissa Andre Events. Don’t miss the super pretty cake by Cake Opera Co. , stunning Ines Di Santo gown, and pink and white checkered dance floor by Dance Floor Decor.

Check out some of our favourite spreads of the art gallery wedding below and be sure to pick up the full issue to see more! Enjoy!

Rich fall foliage was the perfect backdrop for Andrea and Nilesh’s elegant black-tie Graydon Hall Manor wedding.  Poised overlooking the Don Valley, Graydon Hall Manor is a distinguished historic boutique conference and reception facility, established to produce sophisticated events with an uncompromising attention to detail.  Whether you desire a discreet dinner for a select few or a dazzling event for a few hundred, the private rooms at Graydon Hall Manor are the perfect venue.  Trust me as a photographer this venue offers plenty of beautiful spaces to photograph.

Andrea and Nilesh’s classy affair started with the bride doing her finishing touches at Graydon Hall before sneaking out for an adorable first look with her groom in the manor’s beautifully landscaped gardens. A gorgeous outdoor ceremony followed with friends and family beaming as the bride walked down the aisle in a stunning fit and flare gown by Lazaro. Lazaro Perez, acclaimed designer of the Lazaro Bridal and Bridesmaid collections, invokes old-Hollywood glamour by combining his signature hand-beading, embroidery, and lace with dramatic silhouettes and impeccable fit.  Luscious white blooms by Fuscia Designs decorated the venue in abundance: adorning the gorgeous wedding arbor, the bride’s bouquet, along the aisle and into the reception. At dinner, guests were seated to decadent details like gold rimmed dinnerware and royal purple accents. The entire day was exquisitely planned and designed by Cynthia Martyn Events Inc. The night was capped with a cake provided by Graydon Hall as guests danced the night away with The St. Royals. We loved spending your beautiful day with you, Andrea and Lesh! Congratulations and we wish you every happiness!
